Editor, Journal of Global South Studies

The Journal of Global South Studies (JGSS), a peer-reviewed interdisciplinary journal published twice annually by the University Press of Florida, is seeking applications for the position of Editor. The new editor will assume responsibilities beginning October 2025, with a transition period starting in August 2025 facilitated by the outgoing Editor.
About the Journal:
The Journal of Global South Studies is a leading venue for original scholarship on the history, politics, cultures, and societies of the Global South. JGSS is committed to promoting critical and comparative perspectives on issues such as development, postcolonialism, migration, conflict, human rights, and cultural production. The journal publishes research articles, book reviews, and
review essays.
Position Description:
The Editor is responsible for:
· Overseeing all editorial operations, including the peer review process, article selection, and production deadlines.
· Collaborating with the Associate Editors, Book Review Editor, and Editorial Board.
· Communicating with authors, reviewers, and the publisher to ensure timely publication.
· Promoting the journal’s visibility in scholarly communities and expanding its author base,
especially from underrepresented regions and voices.
· Participating in editorial board meetings and representing the journal at conferences and academic events.
Editorial Assistance:
· Associate editors for Latin America, Africa, Middle East/North Africa, Eurasia, and Asia.
· Book review editor
· Copy Editor
· Press-provided services such as graphic design, copyright acquisition, and mailing journals
· $400 monthly stipend for the Editor
Qualifications:
· A Ph.D. in a field related to Global South studies (e.g., History, Anthropology, Political Science, Cultural Studies).
· A strong record of scholarly publication and editorial experience.
· Commitment to interdisciplinary approaches and diverse perspectives.
· Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
· Institutional support is welcome but not required; the journal can be edited remotely.
